In Memory of Jay B. Cutler – Mental Health Advocate

The Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance would like to acknowledge the passing of Jay B. Cutler, J.D. and honor his outstanding work as a dedicated mental health advocate. As the director of government relations for the American Psychiatric Association from 1977-2003, Cutler was instrumental in changing the stigmas associated with mental illness and advocating for patients rights. His tireless efforts to extended Medicare coverage for the treatment of mental illness and provide patients with proper medication and care laid the groundwork for many of the current programs in place today. We were very fortunate to have someone as passionate and dedicated as Mr. Cutler working so diligently to ensure quality care for those living with mental illness. He will be truly missed by DBSA and the entire mental health community.
