My son's hope

For ten years, my son was diagnosed with a multitude of disorders. We experimented with countless medications and specialists. My child never actually laughed (I mean, from the belly laugh) until he was 12 years old. Imagine my joy when he finally did!

Instead of the intense day-to-day roller coaster ride we went through for ten years, he has enjoyed three years of stability. He has had his moments (actually days and sometimes even weeks) when I wonder if the current treatment for his bipolar disorder is really working, but he has friends now; he is confident in himself; he actually has a plan for the future. Who would have thought that this once anti-social, argumentative, sullen, hyperactive boy would ever have a future?

Bipolar disorder is treatable; you can lead a productive life. My son is the greatest joy in my life and has helped me learn to love him and my other children unconditionally.
