Capwiz - DBSA Legislative Action Center

What is Capwiz?
Capwiz is a service that provides DBSA constituents with “one-stop-shopping.  They can identify their Congressional representatives; research Congressional voting records; learn about legislative issues and directly email legislators – and even register to vote – all without leaving your desk.

How do I locate my legislators?
Simply enter your ZIP code on the homepage and click “Go” and easily locate national, state and local elected officials.  If you are unsure of your ZIP code, just enter your address and the system will automatically look it up for you.

Can I send the President messages through Capwiz?
Yes, you can contact the President as well as the Vice President and First Lady. Simply select the President and VP Quick Link on the home page under Elected Officials

What about sending my state and local representatives messages from Capwiz?
You may easily contact your state representatives. On the Legislative Action Center homepage, scroll down towards the bottom to “State” or “Local” officials.  Enter your zip code and the service will bring up the information.

What are Action Alerts?
DBSA posts Action Alerts on specific issues affecting the mental health community.  Alerts inform and subsequently ask constituents to contact their legislators on the issue.

How frequently is information updated on Capwiz?
When changes in Congress or at the state level affect our issues, CapWiz is the first to have the updated information.

I want to learn more about how Congress works.  Where can I find this information?
With the new enhanced advocacy section of the DBSA website, you’ll find all of the information you’ll need on how to do advocacy, information about Congress, how to write a letter, make a visit, etc.

There is also a special Capwiz section, called Capitol Hill Basics.

Where can I find information on recent bills?
On the DBSA Legislative Action Center homepage, you’ll find a link at the top of the page that says “Federal Legislation.”  This will give you a list of current legislation.

How can I get current information on how my representative or senator voted on key bills?
“Mega-Vote” is a weekly email service that informs you on how your representatives in Congress are voting on key legislation. On the bottom of the Legislative Action Center homepage, you’ll see a box called Mega-Vote, you sign up by using this link.
